We are outraged to learn of the Ministry of Education’s decision to expel the Parents Circle’s Dialogue Meeting program from its database of approved external high school programs (GEFEN).
While this decision impacts the bereaved families who lost their closest loved ones, it primarily hurts our youth and Israeli society as a whole.
The outrageous decision is a deliberate attempt to deny Israeli students the opportunity to learn about the human cost of the conflict on both sides and the opportunity to cultivate peace.

Israeli Education Minister Yoav Kisch on Thursday vowed to “deal with” Herzliya Hebrew Gymnasium headmaster Ze’ev Degani if the historic Tel Aviv high school continues to encourage students to evade service in the Israel Defense Forces. “There are instances where we draw a line,” Kisch told Makor Rishon on Thursday.
The Education Minister has banned bereaved Israelis and Palestinians from speaking to schoolchildren. Other liberal programs could face the same fate.
Facing court and civil challenges to judicial overhaul, Israel’s government attacks peace education. The Parents Circle – Families Forum, a nonprofit organisation with both Palestinian and Israeli bereaved families – will no longer be allowed to operate activities in Israeli schools.
The Israeli Palestinian Bereaved Families for Peace, a grassroots organization promoting reconciliation, has been experiencing in recent years what Breaking the Silence went through before: a ludicrous branding as enemies of the people, systematic threats, and attempts to sabotage any public appearance, as well as a ban from schools.
More than 90 school principals from around Israel have signed a letter published on Wednesday supporting school programming by the Parents Circle – Families Forum, which represents Israelis and Palestinians who have lost loved ones to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The ban was following a rule change by Education Minister Yoav Kisch that prohibits educational programming that slanders the IDF or soldiers.
