Today the Israeli High Court of Justice ruled to allow 100 Palestinians to attend tomorrow’s Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day Ceremony in Tel Aviv, overturning the government’s decision last week to block entry permits.
“There are 99 ways to commemorate the dead,” the court wrote in its ruling, “Ninety-nine ways to express grief.”
The High Court’s ruling is a decisive victory for Combatants for Peace and the Parents Circle – Families Forum, who have co-hosted the Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day Ceremony for the past 14 years. The ceremony’s message– war is not inevitable and we can break the cycle of violence together— has taken on a renewed importance, as violence erupted over the weekend between Israeli and Hamas forces.
Tomorrow, American communities will gather together in New York, Washington, D.C., Boston, Asheville, NC, Durham, NH, Santa Fe, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles, to stand in solidarity with Israelis and Palestinians seeking peace and reconciliation. We hope you can join them!
