Award winning chefs shared how food brings us comfort during difficult times, whether it’s a global pandemic, national crises, or losing a loved one.

Reem, Michael, and Gil also brought their comfort food to share.

Speakers:

Gil Hovav is Israel’s leading culinary journalist, a TV personality, and author. He has played a major role in the remaking of Israeli cuisine and the transformation of Israel from a country of basic traditional foods into a ​“gourmet nation”. He was born in Jerusalem in 1962 and lives in Tel Aviv with his partner and their daughter.

Reem Kassis is a Palestinian chef, writer, and author of the James Beard nominated cookbook “The Palestinian Table.” A former business consultant and graduate of The Wharton School and the LSE, today she uses the power of food and storytelling to share the Palestinian narrative with the world. Born and raised in Jerusalem, she currently resides in Philadelphia with her husband and two daughters.

Michael Solomonov was born in G’nei Yehuda, Israel and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. The 2011 James Beard Award winner for “Best Chef, Mid-Atlantic,” a 2016 James Beard Award winner for “International Cooking” and “Book of the Year,” along with business partner, Steve Cook for Zahav: A World of Israeli Cooking and 2017’s James Beard Award winner for “Outstanding Chef”, Chef Solomonov is known for his extraordinary skill at transforming simple foods into artful culinary masterpieces.
