“I choose to dedicate this flower to every bereaved mother that has lost her child.” –Muna Abu Sarah, bereaved Palestinian mother of Khaled
To mark International Women’s Day, bereaved Israeli and Palestinian women created a book of pressed flowers of hope for U.S. VP Kamala Harris to commemorate the loss of their 24 children, sisters, brothers and parents and as a gift to honor and congratulate her.
The letter to VP Kamala Harris shared:
“We would rather give you a flower, than put one on a new grave. Each of the pressed flowers on these pages illustrates the loss of a loved one due to the conflict but also the choice of women in our group to choose a path not of hatred and revenge but rather one of transformation and understanding the needs of the other.”

“We hope that you will visit Israel and Palestine in the near future and that perhaps you can visit some of the beautiful places the women chose to collect a wild flower in the name of their loved one.
Our lives and yours are inextricably intertwined. We share a joint wish for a peaceful future for our children and grandchildren and for ourselves. Thank you for giving us hope.“

work of bereaved women
