“A new condition added by the Education Ministry on Monday for operators of external programs in schools, that requires them not to degrade or shame the Israel Defense Forces seems tailor-made for one specific organization: The Parents Circle – Families Forum for Israeli and Palestinian bereaved families,” wrote Shira Kadaria-Ovadia in Ha’aretz today.
After 20 years of running Dialogue Meetings in Israeli high schools successfully, it seems the new government is out to target the Parents Circle‘s program which is often the first, if not the only time that Israeli students have the opportunity to meet and speak, face-to-face, with a Palestinian.
We will not be silenced. The Parents Circle recognizes that all lives lost to the conflict are victims. The Dialogue Meeting program has remarkable results:
- 91% of Israeli students reported a very positive experience
- 72% report an increase in levels of empathy towards the “other side”
- 70% report an increase in their optimistic feelings about peace
- 76% reported a desire to know more about the “other side”
