“We want to live in peace” – Solidarity in Khan al-Ahmar

On Saturday, about 100 members of the Parents Circle – Families Forum and program alumni arrived to express their support and solidarity with the residents of Khan al-Ahmar, who are living under the threat of home demolitions and deportation.

The townspeople hosted their visitors in the protest tent erected next to the school they had built with their own hands and that serves all the villages in the area. Surrounding villages are also under threat of demolition.

“Convey to your community our message that we want to live in peace,” said one of the residents. “We’ve been living here since 1952 after the state moved us from Tel Arad, and at the end of the day we want to live our lives in peace.”

“When they come for demolition,” another resident said, “we will tell you and you will come. It is enough for you to stand on the other side of the street and watch. That is enough.”

The bereaved members of the Parents Circle demand a halt to the demolition of Khan al-Ahmar. Demolition of innocent citizens’ homes within an occupied area is a war crime.
