This week, Parents Circle members arrived at the Jerusalem District Court for a hearing on our petition against the Israeli Ministry of Education.
They were accompanied by teachers and principals, who delivered a statement in support of the Dialogue Meeting program, signed by 129 school principals.
“The Ministry of Education admitted that 17–18-year-old students are considered old enough to serve in the army — but not old enough to be exposed to critical thinking or to engage with peace education.”
Ayelet Harel, Parents Circle Co-Director
The trial ended early when right wing activists started yelling “We will not allow terrorist families to talk to our children.”
Thank you to the Association for Civil Rights in Israel for representing us in court, and thank YOU for supporting us throughout this process. Signing the petition has showed our members and the Israeli Ministry of Education that we have both local and international support, and we feel hopeful that the judge will rule in favor of peace education.
Now we wait for a decision from the judge as to whether or not Dialogue Meetings will be allowed back in schools. Stay tuned for more updates.
