About the speakers
Roni Hirshenson is an Israeli. In 1995, his son, Amir, was serving in the Israeli army when he was killed by a Palestinian suicide bomber. Bereavement struck the Hirshenson family a second time in 2000, when Roni’s son, El’ad, committed suicide after his best friend, David, was killed while serving during the Second Intifada. Roni and his wife, Mira, are founding members of the Parents Circle.
George Sa’adeh is a Palestinian and native Bethlehemite. In 2003, Israeli soldiers opened fire on the Sa’adeh’s car as they were driving home from the supermarket in Bethlehem. George, his wife Najwa, and their two daughters– Christine and Marianne– were all injured, with George taking nine bullet wounds to his back and abdomen. Christine, who was 12 years old, would later die in the hospital. The Sa’adeh family joined the Parents Circle a month after Christine was killed.
