Training 25 bereaved Israelis and Palestinians, aged 18 to 27, to become the next generation of peace leaders.
The program
The generation with no memory of before
Young adults in Israel and Palestine today have no memory of a time before the violence. Bereaved youth have paid the highest price: they grew up in the middle of grief and loss, born during the first or second Intifada, taught to hate the other side — and somewhere in all of that, someone they loved was taken from them.
They are the future of the Parents Circle, and the future of the peace movement in Israel and Palestine.
The cohort
Ready to lead the next group
Over the past year the Parents Circle has worked with a cadre of bereaved Israeli and Palestinian young adults who have either come up through its youth programs or grown up around them through a parent’s membership.
They are ready to take on more — as counsellors, youth leaders and dialogue meeting facilitators, giving back to the next group of young people and serving as role models in their own communities. To lead at that level, they need training.

What the program sets out to do
Four aims, worked on across the year with the same group of young people.
The goals of Young Ambassadors for Peace are to:
- Contribute to mutual understanding, empathy and humanisation between Israeli and Palestinian youth.
- Foster emotional breakthroughs, and a transformation in attitude and perception, among Israeli and Palestinian youth.
- Generate a cadre of leadership among bereaved Israeli and Palestinian young adults who can cultivate and lead an expanded peace constituency.
The program engages 25 Palestinian and Israeli young adults, aged 18 to 27, over ten months. They take part in:
- Leadership and capacity building workshops based on the Parallel Narrative Experience module.
- Work in different group configurations — uni-national, bi-national, gender-mixed and separated, and sub-groups — which deepens their commitment and their ability to serve as role models and future leaders, and lets them feel safe and ready for an intensive emotional and educational experience.
