The Human Response to Settler Violence
When settler violence surged in the West Bank, bereaved Palestinian members called an emergency meeting with their Israeli counterparts. This is what came out of it.
How it started
An emergency meeting, and then a standing commitment
In 2021, surges in settler violence brought invasions of Palestinian homes, destruction of Palestinian property, fear and injury — much of it without reproach or accountability. Settler violence in the West Bank is a longstanding part of Palestinian daily life, but the situation has worsened in recent years, creating an atmosphere of intimidation, terror and destruction.
Bereaved Palestinian members called an emergency meeting with their Israeli counterparts, and reported an intense level of fear for their own safety and for their colleagues and staff. Bereaved Israelis acknowledged the deteriorating situation and expressed their solidarity with the victims of settler violence.
The Parents Circle launched an ongoing Solidarity Campaign in response. There is a strong presence of Israelis and Palestinians standing together who will not permit such acts.

Where members went, and what they did
Each of these was a joint action: bereaved Israelis and Palestinians travelling together to a community under threat.
January 2023
Aiding Masafer Yatta
Bereaved Israeli and Palestinian members delivered humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Masafer Yatta area, as the Israeli army sought to forcibly evacuate more than 14 villages there.
December 2022
Standing with Silwan
60 Palestinian and Israeli members visited the Jerusalem neighbourhood of Silwan and met Farhi Abu Diab, an activist in the struggle against threatened mass eviction. Building permits have been requested and denied there for 40 years.

Olive harvest in at-Tuwani
Dozens of bereaved Palestinian and Israeli members joined farmers in the village of at-Tuwani, in the south Hebron hills, to help bring in the olive harvest.

Solidarity in Khan al-Ahmar
About 100 members and program alumni arrived to support the residents of Khan al-Ahmar, who live under the threat of home demolition and deportation.

Standing with Bardala
Members and alumni stood with the residents of Bardala, a Palestinian community in the Jordan Valley facing displacement through water and land confiscation by the Israeli army and nearby settlements.
December 2021
The struggle in Sheikh Jarrah
On Christmas Day, 50 activists travelled to Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem to stand with the 600 Palestinians living there, as government pressure to evict families increased.

Visit to Wadi Fukin
Members visited the West Bank village of Wadi Fukin, near Bethlehem, and heard from residents about daily life and the problems they face from the settlements surrounding them.

Supply truck to Tubas
Following an initial visit to Tubas, members distributed aid with the help of the Sabaya al-Khair organisation. The Parents Circle’s co-directors also pledged its media channels to raising awareness of the attacks on the villagers.
